Travelling within the EU

The EU treaties guarantee the freedom of establishment and services and the freedom of movement for workers, which means they guarantee the right of any EU citizen to live and work in another EU Member State.  This means that EU citizens are entitled, within the EU, mainly to:

  • provide cross-border services,
  • seek a job in another Member State,
  • work without needing a work permit,
  • live in the respective country,
  • stay in the country even after their employment terminates,
  • have the same rights as the citizens of the host country in terms of access to employment, working conditions, social security benefits, and tax advantages.
